Meeting the Transportation Challenge. Because virtually every Texas city depends upon the economic impact generated by travel and tourism, our state needs an effective and efficient transportation network that allows air, rail and auto travelers to safely and conveniently visit cities throughout the state. 10:55AM-12:15PM
The Texas Drought: It’s Everyone’s Business.
Few industries are more vulnerable to the ravages of severe drought and water shortages than the travel industry.  2011 was the driest year on record and some experts are predicting the drought could last until 2020.  If that happens, the worst is yet to come and Texas does not have enough water to meet the needs of its citizens and its businesses. Is your city or your business prepared for the future? This panel will help you learn how the state, water authorities, cities and businesses are dealing with the drought and how we can all work together to implement responsible water policies and practices to get through the challenging times that lie ahead.

Panelists:
  • Mayor Webb Melder - City of Conroe
  • Dan Decker - President, SeaWorld San Antonio
  • Kent Saathoff - Vice President of Grid Operations and System Planning, Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT)
  • David Wheelock - Manager of Water Supply and Conservation, Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA)
  • Kim Wilson - Special Assistant, Office of Water with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
Moderator:  State Representative Doug Miller (New Braunfels)
