About TTIA’s Public Policy Forum

Join us for a half-day forum where you  will hear from legislators and political analysts about the upcoming session and how it can impact our industry. Confirmed speakers thus far include Representative Todd Hunter, Representative Dan Huberty, Senator Kelly Hancock, and Erik Hansen of the U.S. Travel Association. Topics will include business and commerce, urban affairs, Major Events Trust Fund, school start date, an overview of the 2017 legislative session, and more.

This is a must-attend event for all TTIA members. It's also a great opportunity to bring along some of the younger professionals in your office to educate them about the issues that are crucial to the success of the travel industry.

Representative Todd Hunter is Chairman of the Calendars Committee in the Texas House of Representatives. His committee is in charge of scheduling bills to be debated on the House floor. Chairman Hunter has a unique perspective being an important part of House leadership as well as a champion of the Texas travel industry. Chairman Hunter will provide his view of the upcoming legislative session with its many challenges.

Senator Donna Campbell and Representative Dan Huberty

Senator Campbell is Chairwoman of the Veteran Affairs and Military Installations Committee and sits on the Education, Health and Human Services, Administration, and Intergovernmental Relations Committees. Senator Campbell has been a big supporter of travel/tourism issues and is the incoming Chair of the Texas Legislative Tourism Caucus. Senator Donna Campbell has been serving Senate District 25 including San Antonio, Austin and the New Braunfels areas since 2013. Senator Campbell also is a board-certified emergency room physician. Representative Dan Huberty is considered an expert of public education issues as a former school board member on the Humble Independent School Board. He has served on the House Public Education Committee since he was first elected in 2011. He also serves on the House State Affairs Committee.

Senator Kelly Hancock is going into his third legislative session as a State Senator from North Richland Hills, Texas. Senator Hancock is Chairman of the Senate Business & Commerce Committee and serves on several other Senate Committees including Transportation, Finance and Natural Resources and Economic Development. He previously served three terms in the Texas House. Having been a member of the House Republican Caucus, Chairman of the Texas Legislative Tourism Caucus, the Senate Select Committee on Tax Reform & Relief, Economic Development Committee and other important committees, Senator Hancock will bring a wealth of diverse information concerning issues for the upcoming session.

Travel industry partner associations will provide updates on their legislative agendas for the upcoming session.

Panelists: Homero Lucero, Senior VP of Government Relations, Texas Travel Industry Association; Justin Bragiel, General Counsel, Texas Hotel & Lodging Association; Carl Richie, Lobbyist, Texas Restaurant Association; and Cathy DeWitt, VP of Governmental Affairs, Texas Association of Business

12:00pm – 1:30pm Lunch and Panel Discussion on Insights to Texas Politics and the 85th Legislative Session

This panel of experts will provide lively dialogue and insights into what’s ahead for Texas politics and the coming 84th Legislative Session. They will offer keen observations and thoughtful analysis on the major players, policy issues and the politics that will likely shape the legislature session.
