INTERNSHIPS

TTIA recognizes the need for quality education and training in the field of travel, tourism and the hospitality industry.

Purpose
The Texas Travel Industry Association Internship program was established in 2001 by its membership. The Texas Travel Industry Association recognizes the need for quality education and training in the field of travel, tourism and the hospitality industry.

Mission
TTIA's mission is to provide college students the opportunity to secure and actively participate in internships that will provide them with viable employment experiences in their majors or field of interest; thereby, expanding their employment opportunities, career choices and leadership capabilities.

Program description
The duration of the intern employment is at the organization's discretion. Most students look for summer months, primarily June through August. During the program, interns are supervised by participating sponsor organizations and respective supervisors. If college credit is desired, special arrangement must be made with the intern's college and individual school/department. Any academic credit is established by the guidelines of a students academic program of study.

Eligibility
Persons eligible for the award must be: 1) currently enrolled in a Texas college/university as an undergraduate or graduate student; 2) have completed a minimum of 40 credit hours total; 3) have an overall 2.5 GPA.

Organization responsibilities
  • Provide a minimum of 400 hours (normally in approximately 10 weeks) work experience to the student.
  • Send a detailed description of duties, start date, salary range, projected hours, any specific requirements and contact information to TTIA.
  • Allow intern to be assigned to either a primary job or a variety of jobs, and expose the student to different aspects of the organization throughout the internship.
  • Provide a mentor or direct supervisor to meet with the student on a weekly basis to discuss problems, give constructive criticism, reinforce good work, and to allow the intern to ask questions.
  • Direct supervisor to provide a written evaluation at the mid-point of the internship as well as at the end and communicate results to student.
  • Adhere to any specific requirements from the individual institutions internship requisites.
  • All requests for internships should be filed with TTIA as soon as possible. Most students begin looking for internship opportunities in the early fall. The earlier we receive internship requests, the more options will be available to you.
