UNITY AND STRENGTH FOUND IN THE TEXAS TRAVEL INDUSTRY

AUSTIN, TX – Looking to a year of growth and continued recovery, more than 1,100 travel industry professionals from throughout the state gather to support one of the largest industries in Texas. This year’s Texas Travel Industry Association’s (TTIA) annual Unity Dinner, taking place February 25, 2004 at the Austin Hilton Hotel, focuses on celebrating unity in Texas tourism.

Governor Rick Perry is the featured speaker and joins individuals from all areas of the travel and tourism industry, as well as state and local officials. “This event brings together both public and private sector organizations to highlight the industry and identify ways to work together to enhance it,” said Steve Calloway, Vice President/General Manager, Six Flags Over Texas/Hurricane Harbor and TTIA Chair.
“Partnering for the good of the whole is one of the strengths of the travel and tourism industry in Texas,” Calloway said. Partnering organizations include hotels, restaurants, state and national parks, attractions, campgrounds, transportation, sporting events, historic and cultural activities and an assortment of businesses and services that are provided directly and indirectly to traveling public.

The evening will include a silent auction, as well as entertainment from Doug Forrest and the Travelin’ Texas Band and a live performance from Zachary Scott Theater’s production of the hit musical Always Patsy Cline.
In 2002 the Texas travel and tourism industry contributed $41.4 billion to the Texas economy and directly employed more than 451,000 Texans.
