Texas Travel Industry Association Endorses State Representative Bryan Hughes in his Election Runoff Race for Senate District 1
(Austin, TX), May 20, 2016 – The Texas Travel Industry Association (TTIA) announced today its endorsement of Representative Bryan Hughes in his election run-off race for Senate District 1. Senate District 1 includes Bowie, Camp, Cass, Franklin, Gregg, Harrison, Lamar, Marion, Morris, Panola, Red River, Rusk, Smith, Titus, Upshur and Wood counties reflecting in 2014 total direct travel spending exceeding $1 billion, more than $22 million in local tax receipts, more than $62 million in state tax receipts supporting more than 10,000 total jobs.
“Residing in an area with a thriving travel & tourism industry, Representative Hughes understands the importance of this industry, not only in North East Texas, but to the state as a whole,” said David Teel, TTIA’s President and CEO.
“Representative Hughes has an impressive history of strong, consistent leadership, a pro-business voting record and strong commitment to and support of the Texas travel industry,” Teel added. “We are extremely proud to recognize Representative Hughes for his role in supporting policies critical to our industry.”
Travel and tourism is one of Texas’s largest export industries and the second largest contributor to the state’s gross domestic product. Direct spending by travelers in the state surpassed $69 billion in 2015 and directly and indirectly supported jobs for more than one million Texans, making the industry one of the state’s largest employers.
Early voting for the May 24, 2016 Primary Runoff Election runs Monday, May 16 – Friday, May 20.
