AUSTIN – Following an extensive nationwide search, the Texas Travel industry Association has named David Teel to succeed Paul Serff as its President/CEO at the end of this year. Serff, who has headed TTIA for the last 12 years, announced his plans to retire earlier this year. He will step down at the end of December. Teel has been with TTIA for six years, most recently as Vice President of the state-wide travel and tourism organization. Previously, Teel served as the Director of Tourism for the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism.

Brad Wuest, current TTIA Chair and President of Natural Bridge Caverns, said, "After an extensive national search, David came up as the best person to succeed Paul as our new President/CEO of TTIA. We have been very fortunate over the years to have had leaders such as Vic Mathias as our President in the early to mid 90s, and then Paul Serff for the last dozen years. Our association and the industry as a whole have benefited greatly from their leadership, and we believe David will continue that legacy.”

Dan Decker, VP/GM of Sea World San Antonio, and chair-elect of TTIA, added, "David has our total support and confidence. He has added a lot over his tenure with TTIA so far and comes with a great perspective. We have a great staff in place, and have the advantage that Paul has agreed to continue to work on specific projects and represent TTIA at particular meetings for the next several years.”

Serff also expressed his full support for the decision, stating, "David has been a great asset to all of us at TTIA, and I am pleased that he will succeed me. This is an industry, a state and a team that is a joy to work with.”

David Teel thanked the officers and board of TTIA for their support and encouragement. "TTIA is a marvelous organization, and I am truly blessed to be afforded this opportunity.  TTIA is a valuable asset to the state’s travel and tourism industry and will continue to be a force for this industry. We are well respected nationally, and will continue to do our part to make Texas the best place to live and visit in the country.”
