Nanci Liles, Executive Director of Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau, Receives Lifetime Achievement Award For Contributions to the Texas Travel Industry

(Austin, TX), October 13, 2016 – In honor of her lifetime contributions to the travel and tourism industry in Texas, the Texas Travel Industry Association (TTIA) presented its Lifetime Achievement award to Nanci Liles, executive director of the Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau. Ms. Liles received the award on Oct. 11 during the association’s 31st Annual Texas Travel Summit held in Houston.

"Nanci is an integral part of TTIA and the Texas travel industry,” said President & CEO David Teel. “She became Chair of TTIA's Board on 9/11, and from that date forward, with her leadership, members of the TTIA community became more resilient and more unified. She has held a leadership position on TTIA's Board for many years and has helped TTIA to evolve into the association it is today."

Liles has led the Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau team for more than 31 years after spending her first three years in the industry with the Midland Chamber of Commerce. She has served as chair to the board of directors for both TTIA and the Texas Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus. In 2008, Liles received TTIA’s prestigious Tall in Texas award.

“To be recognized by TTIA with the Lifetime Achievement award is an extraordinary honor,” said Liles during her acceptance speech. “I am beyond humbled and so proud to join a small, but mighty group of Texas travel professionals. My passion for the Texas Travel Industry Association, and the economic engine I represent, run deeply within me. I had the good fortune to work with stellar leaders in the travel industry and truly learned from the best. I am grateful for this award and thankful for all of those who supported me on this incredible journey.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award honors an individual who has dedicated his or her life to the betterment of Texas travel and tourism through a body of work over many years, and whose dedication has made a lasting and important contribution to the industry.
