Shanna
Smith-Snyder, Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau, Receives Rising Star
Award
(Austin,
TX), September 26, 2011 – In honor of her exceptional
leadership in the Texas tourism industry, Shanna Smith-Snyder, Abilene
Convention and Visitors Bureau, was presented with the Rising Star Award by the
Texas Travel Industry Association (TTIA) on September 21, 2011. The award was
presented at the association’s annual Travel Summit Conference at the San
Antonio Marriott Rivercenter Hotel.
Shanna Smith-Snyder is
quickly becoming a recognized leader in the Texas tourism industry and TTIA. As
part of the Future Leaders Committee, Shanna represents the young professionals
involved in the Texas tourism industry. Her work with the Abilene Convention
and Visitors Bureau as Communications Director has helped increase travel and
visitors to Abilene.
Shanna has been nationally
recognized for her work in social media. She has developed award winning
programs during her time with the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau,
including Project 365, a year-long photo album that showcased the best of
Abilene. She also created the Abilene Twisitor Center, a Twitter visitor center
that provides real time answers to visitors. Abilene is one of only five cities
across the U.S. with a recognized and active Twisitor Center.
Shanna is an enthusiastic
young leader and member of TTIA and actively participates in TTIA’s events and
programs. She is also actively involved
in the Texas Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus, Abilene Public
Relations Organization, Advertising Federation of America and Abilene Leaders
of Tomorrow. In addition to her work in
Texas tourism, Shanna is an active member of Kiwanis, participates in the
Abilene Community Theater and teaches yoga during her spare time.

of this and truly a Rising Star in our industry,” said David Teel, TTIA
President and CEO.
The TTIA Rising Star Award
was created to recognize young industry professionals working in Texas travel
and tourism as a part of TTIA member organizations. Rising Star nominees are 35
and younger and have demonstrated leadership and commitment to the industry
through their accomplishments. Members submitted nominations for the Rising
Star Award to the TTIA office. All nomination materials were collected and
submitted to a selection committee comprised of TTIA board members. The winner
was announced at a special presentation during the annual TTIA Texas Travel Summit
held in San Antonio, September 18-21, 2011.
