NEW IN 2014 - TTIA Announces New Award and Announces Award Recipients
On Tuesday, September 30th at the 2014 Texas Travel Summit, TTIA - on behalf of the Board of Directors and our membership - will present the first annual TTIA Heritage Award to Six Flags Entertainment. Jim Reid-Anderson, Chairman, President & CEO of Six Flags Entertainment will accept the inaugural award that evening.
The TTIA Heritage Award recognizes
and honors outstanding businesses and organizations that have enriched the
heritage of and made a lasting, positive imprint on the Texas travel industry
by demonstrating a history of exceptional achievement, exemplary business
practices, innovative corporate culture, and/or a commitment of excellence to
their customers and their community. Additionally, the TTIA Heritage Award
recognizes all of the recipient’s employees because our Board firmly believes
the dedication and teamwork of all employees makes an organization successful.
Lifetime Achievement Award
The 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Arthur Coulombe, General Manager, JW Marriott Hill Country Resort & Spa, San Antonio. The Lifetime Achievement Award honors an individual who has dedicated his or her life to the betterment of Texas travel and tourism through a body of work over many years, and whose dedication has made a lasting and important contribution to the industry.
From his first position in the industry as a bellman to his current post as General Manager of the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, Arthur Coulombe has embodied these traits through his outstanding leadership and commitment to the travel industry. He currently sits on the TTIA Board of Directors and is also very active in the San Antonio hospitality industry. He serves as a Board Member of the San Antonio Area Tourism Council, Board Member and Past Chairman of the Tourism Commission of the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau, past President of the Greater San Antonio Hotel/Motel Association, and actively participates in a number of other local and charitable organizations.
Tall in Texas Award
The 2014 Tall in Texas Award will be presented to Mary Jane Nalley, Co-Owner, Gruene Historic District. The Tall in Texas Award is presented to an individual nominated from the membership for their outstanding contributions to travel and tourism and to TTIA. The Tall in Texas Award honors an industry professional whose commitment to and influence upon travel and tourism has changed the face of the industry on a local, regional or state-wide level.
Mary Jane Nalley took her passion for a sleepy little town in Central Texas and, with tireless effort and vision, helped turn it into a top travel destination, recognized nationally and internationally as an example of real Texas. Gruene Historic District's revitalization has made significant contributions to the travel & tourism industry in New Braunfels and Texas. Mary Jane is very active in her community and the industry, sitting on the Board and Executive Committee of the Greater New Braunfels Economic Development Council, the board of Communities in Schools, and the board of TTIA. She is a past board member and Life Member of the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce where she also participated on the CVB Strategy and Steering Committee.
Rising Star Award
The 2014 Rising Star Award will be presented to Elizabeth Eddins, CTE, Director of Tourism, Beaumont Convention & Visitors Bureau. The Rising Star Award is presented to a young professional (under 35 years of age) in the Texas travel industry who has shown a commitment to the travel industry, who has demonstrated leadership qualities and who has contributed significantly to their organization and the industry.
Elizabeth Eddins exemplifies "Texas Hospitality", resourcefulness, and leadership. Because of her passion for the Texas travel industry and her dedication to her role in Beaumont, she is lauded by her peers as a Rising Star in the industry. Elizabeth is very active in the industry and sits on several committees and boards, including TTIA's Young Professionals Sub-Committee and the Texas Forest Trail Region Board. Elizabeth manages the Beaumont Destination Training Program, which has graduated 2,800 participants and garnered First Place at the TACVB Idea Fair for Local Awareness/Promotion. She has taken this program to a whole new level, opening the program up to other destinations in an effort to share the success of the program across the state. Elizabeth graduated from TTIA's Travel & Tourism College, receiving her Certified Tourism Executive designation in 2013, and recently received her TACVB Destination Marketer designation.
All TTIA Awards will be presented during the 2014 Texas Travel Summit Awards Dinner Presented by Madden Media on Tuesday, September 30th. We encourage all Summit attendees to attend this special event.
