The 2008/2009 Texas Travel Industry Association Scholarship Program

Purpose

The Texas Travel Industry Association Scholarship program was established in 2001 by its membership. The purpose of the fund is to support the educational system by providing student scholarships to current employees or to the immediate family of employees of the current TTIA member organizations. (Immediate family is defined as spouse, children and parents.)

Award

The award is intended to be used for tuition, fees and books for the awardee(s). The award may be disbursed for up to 2 years as long as a minimum 2.5 GPA is maintained. Distribution of the award will be made by the TTIA Scholarship Committee to the Texas university or college of the awardees choice for disbursement through their accounting system.

Eligibility

Persons eligible for the award: 1) Must be a current employee or an immediate family member (immediate family is defined as spouse, children and parents) of a person that is employed at an active TTIA member organization; 2) Must currently be enrolled in an accredited Texas college/university as an undergraduate or graduate student; 3) Must have an official transcript from that accredited Texas college/university with a 2.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale; and 4) Must currently be taking a minimum of 9 credit hours (unless participating in a school sponsored internship in which case the minimum requirements are 6 hours). High school students with AP credit are ineligible.

Application Process

For your information to be reviewed, the following materials must be submitted with your application (please do not staple or pre-punch materials):

  • Prospective scholarship recipients will be required to complete an application form furnished by the TTIA Scholarship Committee
  • Current resume (include accomplishments – work related or personal)
  • Two letters of recommendation from professors and/or employers
  • Official transcript(s) from an accredited Texas college/university (copies and faxed copies are not accepted)
  • 250 word (typed) essay for applicants encompassing their career goals and why they would benefit from the TTIA scholarship

Scholarships are valid for one school year only. Award recipients may apply for continuance of the scholarship fund for an additional year (award recipients can only receive two $1000 scholarships). Such application will be made by a date specified by the Scholarship Committee. Award recipients must reapply if they want to be considered for future scholarships.

Administration

Applications for the TTIA Scholarship will be sent to the TTIA Scholarship Selection Committee for final selection.

A minimum of five (5) Scholarships in increments of $1,000.00 will be awarded annually.

The award will be made in the spring semester by issue of a certificate of award, and the money will be made available prior to the fall semester through Financial Aid. Applications must be received on or before June 13, 2008. (Any unused scholarships will revert to the TTIA scholarship fund).

The TTIA Scholarship Committee will annually provide information related to the academic progress of all awardees to the membership. The President will also arrange for an appropriate opportunity for communication between the awardees and the sponsoring TTIA Member Organization.
