An overview of media law in the digital world with special attention paid to issues of current interest to TTIA members. Includes a discussion of law and technology in general, intellectual property, contract and agency issues, social media, advertising, government regulations and the 1st Amendment, how to maximize your protection, and other areas of concern.

Ann RodriguezA professor and lawyer with a business and communication background, Ann Rodriguez began her teaching career 22 years ago in a college of business, administering and teaching in an Executive MBA program. Through various teaching positions in small colleges and then at Texas Tech University, she gained valuable experience in the classroom and engaged in a great deal of service to college, university, academy and community.

Between 2004 and 2015 she successfully taught various courses, including the Law for Mass Communications course, in the College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University. In that role, she taught about a variety of legal topics including the 1st Amendment, defamation and other communication torts, privacy, contract, agency and intellectual property law. Since 2015 she has been teaching exclusively Business Law in the Rawls College of Business also at Tech.

She has professional legal experience as a professional sports agent, as in-house counsel handling general corporate issues, contract attorney experience with several large New York City law firms, and was in private practice for some time as well. In fact, she worked professionally, both practicing law and in business consulting, for nine years prior to moving to Lubbock to teach full-time at Tech. Ann has an undergraduate degree in Advertising from the University of Florida, an MBA from Boston University, a Law Degree from the University of Florida and is finishing up her Ph.D. in Media & Communication at TTU. She also maintains a legal consulting business here in Lubbock.
